Microsoft Copilot
Readiness, licensing and adoption
The licence is the easy part. The work that determines whether Copilot earns its cost happens before and after the purchase: knowing what it can already see, proving real use cases, and deciding what to build next.
Five ways to license Copilot.
Microsoft 365 Copilot
Per-user add-on for E3, E5, Business and Office 365 plans. No seat minimum.
Copilot Business
Same capability for organizations of 300 or fewer. Annual term only, 300-seat cap.
Business Premium with Copilot
Suite and Copilot bundled, for a tenant not yet on Business Premium.
Copilot Chat
Web-grounded chat with enterprise data protection. Included, no licence needed.
Copilot Studio
Custom agents, metered in Copilot Credits. Prepaid pack of 25,000 credits per month.
Prepare, pilot, then extend.
Prepare
Purview DSPM for AI and SharePoint Advanced Management to find oversharing, then restrict discovery, fix permissions and label what matters.
Done looks like: A written oversharing position before the first licence is assigned.
Pilot
A scoped group on a four-week arc, one workload at a time, measured in Copilot Analytics rather than anecdote.
Done looks like: Usage data, three proven use cases, and a decision on scale.
Extend
Agents in SharePoint and Copilot Studio where a repeated task justifies one, costed in credits before it is built.
Done looks like: An agent in production with a named owner and a credit budget.
Two Microsoft offers with an end date
Copilot in 30 gives a customer under 300 employees a 25-user, 30-day Copilot Business trial through CSP until 31 December 2026. Separately, Microsoft Purview Suite for Business Premium is 50 percent off for customers licensing Business Premium alongside Copilot, also to 31 December 2026, which can fund the governance work above. Both are Microsoft programmes and both expire.

Bring your current environment and we’ll walk through where AIM’s CSP program changes the licensing, the architecture, or both.
