Microsoft Fabric and intelligent agents

Turn SAP transactions into governed intelligence and action.

Unify SAP and enterprise data in Fabric, then give teams agents that investigate exceptions, assemble evidence and recommend the call, inside the approvals you already run.

The goal is not to copy SAP data somewhere else. It is trusted business context that people, analytics and agents can all use safely, and that reconciles when finance checks.

How it is built

Five capabilities, built in this order.

01

Connect

SAP data can leave the landscape several ways. The right one depends on your release, latency, licence position and where data may live.

  • Options assessed against your environment
  • Rejected options documented with reasoning
  • You hear about a bad fit in discovery, not in build
02

Unify

Data products with an owner, a definition, a quality measure and a consumer. Everything downstream reads from these.

  • Customer, vendor, material, product, inventory
  • Purchase order, sales order, production order
  • Asset, project, finance
03

Understand

Insight delivered into the tools people already have open.

  • Power BI and Fabric semantic models
  • Role-based views in Teams and Microsoft 365
  • Predictive analytics across SAP and non-SAP signals
  • Real-time only where latency changes a decision
04

Act

Agents that do the work before the decision, and stop at the decision.

  • Monitor conditions and rank exceptions
  • Investigate and assemble evidence
  • Recommend, with reasoning a person can check
  • Draft the communication
  • Execute through authorized integration, after approval
05

Govern

Control designed first. Adding it afterwards means rebuilding.

  • SAP roles inherited, never bypassed
  • Entra ID, Purview, least privilege on the agent identity
  • Human approval gates on money, stock and master data
  • Audit trail, evaluation baseline, cost monitoring

A second extension path

SAP BTP.

BTP and Fabric are different technologies.

Fabric, above, is Microsoft’s data and AI platform, used here for analytics and agents across SAP and non-SAP data. BTP is SAP’s own platform-as-a-service, used to build custom transactional extensions without modifying SAP’s core code. Both are legitimate ways to extend SAP; they are not the same thing and are not substitutes for each other.

Think of the Business Technology Platform (BTP) as a specialized toolbox. We use it to build custom features for your business without disrupting your main SAP system.

Custom solutions

We build apps that fit your specific way of working.

Clean core

By building on BTP, we keep your main system clean, making future updates much faster and cheaper.

“Clean core” also appears as one of the Implement page’s nine commitments. BTP is a primary way that commitment gets kept once SAP is live.

Agent sorter

Five things get called agents. Four of them are not.

A dashboard that refreshes hourly and turns red when inventory drops below a threshold.

Deterministic workflow automation Not an agent

A rule with a colour. Useful, cheap, well understood, and it should not be sold as anything else. Most of what gets demonstrated as agentic is this.

A model that scores which customers are likely to pay late next month.

Predictive analytics Not an agent

A model producing a score. Valuable and mature, and it needs monitoring for drift, but it does not investigate anything or take an action.

Asking a question about a purchase order in natural language inside SAP and getting an answer back.

SAP-native assistant Not built by AIM

Capability inside SAP’s own products, governed by SAP’s roadmap and licensing. Often the right answer for SAP-only questions, and not something AIM controls.

Summarizing a Teams thread about a delayed shipment into a message for the customer.

Microsoft 365 and Copilot Not our category

Assistance inside the tools people already have, scoped to what those tools can see. It cannot reach across your SAP and logistics data unless something has put that data in reach.

Investigating why an invoice blocked, pulling the PO, receipt and contract, proposing the fix and waiting for approval.

Custom cross-enterprise agent This is the category

Reasoning across SAP and non-SAP context, assembling evidence, recommending an action and stopping at a human gate. Built by AIM, evaluated against a baseline, and audited end to end.

Engagements

Three engagements, in order.

Two weeks

SAP + Fabric Value Discovery

Use case shortlist, architecture, governance model, business case, recommended pilot.

Six to ten weeks

SAP Data Foundation on Fabric

One environment, one priority domain, in production as a reusable data product.

Six to eight weeks

Intelligent SAP Agent Pilot

One process, production intent, KPI baseline, evaluation harness, scaling decision at the end.
